Brandon Banks has eight offers to choose from, and possesses a nice combination of size and speed at corner. The 5-11, 170-pound standout from Maryland took an unofficial visit to Pitt this past weekend, one of the schools that has offered him.
The idea was to just watch the Pitt coaches in action, and get a feel for how they like to coach their corners.
"The visit was actually great, it helped me out a lot," Banks said. "I talked to the defensive coordinator and the head coach. It went very well."
It was actually Banks' second trip to Pitt in his recruiting process. He didn't get into the X's and O's too much, but he did want to see the Pitt coaches working with the corners. Getting a look at the facilities was also a plus. While the facilities aren't directly on the Pitt campus, Banks had an interesting take on the location.
"Their facilities are great, you have an opportunity to play where the Pittsburgh Steelers practice," Banks said. "I like their practice field away from campus. When you're on campus, it's time for work. You have to find practice away from everything, so you can focus on just football."
As far as seeing the corners in action, specifically coached by defensive backs coach Tony Gibson, Banks was also impressed with that.
"I really wanted to see the corners, and see how (Gibson) was as a coach," Banks added. "He's a good coach. I could see myself playing there. I really didn't get to talk X's and O's. I just stood on the sideline and watched them coach. I like Pitt. I like Pitt a lot."
Banks has a couple more unofficial visits, and a big 7-on-7 tournament with his team. He is hoping to maybe narrow down his list of schools over the next couple of months.
"We have a 7-on-7 tournament at Maryland, then I leave Saturday to go to Miami for their camp," Banks said. "Then, the 15th (of June) is South Carolina's camp. I think I'll probably narrow it down at the end of July."
