Demetrious Cox is off on another endeavor, as he will travel across country to compete at the Nike Elite 7-on-7 in Oregon next week. The finals of the 7-on-7 will be televised live on ESPNU on July 9. Cox and Penn Hills receiver Corey Jones will be representing western Pennsylvania.
It's the latest stop for Cox, who also competed at the Nike Camp in State College in May. He also competed at the Badger Sports 7-on-7 event in Pittsburgh back in April. Though he's not too sure of the specifics of this event in Oregon, he is excited to be competing on another competitive stage.
"Basically, Nike is laying it all out for us, Nike has given us really good treatment," Cox said. "There will be a lot of competition there. First will be the 40 times. Then, we're doing 7-on-7. That's where I really stand out. The 7-on-7 championship will be televised live on ESPNU on Saturday night."
As for the summer, Cox hasn't been to too much. With all the offers he has, he hasn't needed to compete at much. Pitt continues to be one of the schools Cox hears from the most. "With Pitt, I'm just looking at the same things with every school, wherever the best opportunity is," Cox said. "Really, with Pitt, I like that about them a lot. I like their coaching staff. They really excite me. That's one of the main things I like about Pitt. I think they're going to be really successful this year. I like their whole outlook on the season, and how they're going to go about things."
Cox also has a pretty good idea of how Pitt would want to use him, should he choose the Panthers.
"They show me where I would play," Cox added. "Basically, I'd be the quarterback of the defense. I'd just fly around and make plays. They'd like me to cover from sideline to sideline. I've seen the campus and everything. It's cool."
It won't be too long before Cox's senior season gets underway. Typically, the Jayhawks open with a scrimmage against Seton LaSalle.
"We're just running plays, hitting the weights really hard and just getting a lot out of the drills," Cox added.
