Devin Cortese has had a busy summer of prospect camps and 7-on-7 competitions. That summer is now over, with his team beginning training camp this week.
Even though Cortese is entering his sophomore year, he's been an integral part of his team's offseason schedule. In Freedom's spring game, Cortese touched the ball just four times, but rushed for 120 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Cortese started his summer off at the Pittsburgh camp, where he worked out with the running backs.
"I learned a lot at the Pitt camp," Cortese said. "We also did some combine stuff, like the 40-yard dash, the broad jump. I had some good times in the 40. I ran a 4.5. I did pretty good up there. There was a lot of competition, and I was just doing my best to work hard and get noticed by the coaches. We'll see what happens when the time comes."
"We have a lot of teammates who are really trying to get noticed," Cortese said. "It really paid off for all of us."
In addition to the prospect camps, Freedom came in second at the UCF passing camp, and placed sixth at the Battle For The Beach in New Smyrna, Florida.
"We've been doing well this summer," Cortese said. "We've been conditioning all summer, getting ready for this."
