Shell Chooses Panthers

Pitt picked up its 17th commitment of the 2012 recruiting class, as five-star running back Rushel Shell has decided to stay at home and play his college ball for the Panthers.

At a press conference at Hopewell High School just a few minutes ago, five-star running back Rushel Shell announced that he'll be attending the University of Pittsburgh.

"Next year, I will be a Pitt Panther,"Shell said.

Shell was one of the most heavily recruited players in the country, choosing Pitt over other finalists such as Alabama and Oregon.

Shell has already rushed for 1,061 yards and 12 touchdowns in just five games this season. He is just the 11th player in state history to surpass 7,000 yards rushing, and has already set the career WPIAL rushing mark with 7,827 yards and 90 touchdowns.

Shell's Hopewell Vikings will be on display tonight, as they take on the Central Valley Warriors, led by its own five-star prospect--2013's Robert Foster.

Stay tuned throughout the day for more from Shell's big announcement.
