It was a humbling event for members of the Pitt basketball team Sunday night, as they were given an opportunity to connect with some of their fans.
Perhaps Ashton Gibbs put it best. The players spend all offseason preparing to gear up for the season. Once the first practice occurs, they lose a little bit of that first step because of the abrupt change of routine. Gibbs said meeting some fans on Sunday night after the rigorous start to the official practices adds a different motivation.
"It definitely humbles us," Gibbs said. "It just reminds us of the fan support that we have here. That's one of the reasons why I came to Pittsburgh; because of the fans and the atmosphere of it. The Oakland Zoo is definitely crazy, and here you have season ticket holders that are behind us. In talked to them, it just leaves an even better feeling. I'll take it all in, and compete harder in practice."
