Trgovcich Focuses On State Title

Austin Trgovcich is a 6-3, 290-pound center for Youngstown (OH) Cardinal Mooney. The Cardinals will battle for a state championship game this Saturday.

Austin Trgovcich recently took home first-team all-northeast Ohio honors at center, and he was also a first-team all-state selection as well. His team enters the Division III state championship game against Shawnee this week with an overall record of 10-3, riding a five-game winning streak.

Along the way, Trgovcich has taken a few unofficial visits, including two to Pitt. Though recruiting is on the backburner for him right now, Pitt is a school that stands out.

"I don't have an offer from there, but they call me every Thursday," Trgovcich said. "They told me that even though their season hasn't gone too well, they're not worried about recruiting.

"I'm friends with the Davis (Chris and Demitrious) twins. Those are my good friends. (2013 safety) Billy Aaron is a good friend, and used to go to my school."

Trgovcich was at Pitt's game with Utah and he was also at the Notre Dame game. Of course, he initially went to the games because of the number of friends he has either committed to Pitt or heavily interested in Pitt. He too has discovered an interest in Pitt along the way.

"I just like going up there," Trgovcich said. "I like the coaching staff, I just like being up there. I like the city, the facilities, the organization. I like it all."

Trgovcich also has some family in Texas. He's also been to games at SMU and North Texas. Comparing the style of play from those two schools, compared to the Pitt games and his own high school—he made this observation.

"They're big on football too," Trgovcich said. "One thing I noticed is that our lineman are bigger. The linemen down there, they're in good shape for sure."
