Jon Skinner, student of the game

Jon Skinner, an athletic 6-foot-5 and 285 pound tackle from Mount Carmel (PA), isn't quite receiving the hype of some of the other top lineman in the Northeast are getting. That might have something to with an injury.

"I tore my ACL," Jon Skinner, who was a first team all-state selection as a junior, said. "Miami called me and they said they want to see me play during the season before they offer because of my injury."

That hasn't stopped colleges like Pittsburgh, Duke, UCONN, and Temple from offering. Some other schools have hinted that they might offer soon such as Maryland, West Virginia and Purdue.

So what does he like about Pittsburgh?

"I really like the new facilities and the coaches at Pittsburgh," he said. "I really enjoyed my visit there in March. I plan on coming out for another unofficial visit in June."

Some other schools that Skinner will visit unofficially are Ohio State, Purdue, Notre Dame and Miami.

So why is he so active this early?

"I might commit somewhere before the end of the summer or early in the season," he said. "I want to be able to concentrate on the season."

Skinner credits his footwork, strength and quickness for his success. He also has intelligence on his side also.

"I have a 4.0 grade point average and I scored a 1230 on the SAT," Skinner said.

Because of his intelligence it's a given that he's a student of the game.

"We watch film every week during the season," he said. "On my own time I watch a lot of film also. I always watch the previous games. I try to get a feel for the defenses."
