Kyle Mitchum is developing a reputation

McDowell's Kyle Mitchum is developing a reputation as the top offensive lineman in the Northeast. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound standout has the offers to back it up. So far he boasts double-digit offers, with Florida State, Miami, Pittsburgh, and Penn State among them. Recently PittInsider.com caught up with him to find out what his plans are for the summer.

"This summer I'm going to workout and take several unofficial visits," he said. "The schools that I plan visiting are Pittsburgh, Ohio State, Michigan, North Carolina, Florida, and either Miami or Florida State."

Mitchum is open at this time and wants to take these visits to give himself a better idea of where he wants to spend the next four or five years of his life.

"I want to take these visits so I can narrow things down by summer," he said. "I could decide by summer or whenever. My options are wide open. I'm looking for a school that has the best academic and football situation for me."

The good news for Panther fans is that he has already been on campus several times before.

"I've been to a couple of Pitt games before," he said. "I've been there a couple of times unofficially. Their facilities are great. It's a very nice school."

What kind of player is the Erie native?

"I'm very quick off the ball and I'm aggressive," he said.

This past spring, Mitchum had a very impressive performance at the Penn State Nike Camp. He was timed in the 40-yard dash in 5.0 seconds and he ran the 20-yard shuttle in the 4.3 second range. He also bench pressed 185 pounds 25 times.

After viewing some film on Mitchum, PittInsiders.com agrees with his description of his play. He's got very quick feet which help him to pull, and is very aggressive, finishing off his blocks well.
