Weekend Prospect Recap

Pitt quarterback commit Tra'Von Chapman opens his senior season with a statement game. Check out how he and other Pitt commits and targets did over the weekend in our first Weekend Prospect Recap of the season. We will follow these players all the way through to December.

Tra'Von Chapman wasted little time warming up for the 2012 season. Chapman completed 22-of-39 passes for 439 yards in a 36-17 win on Friday night. Chapman also rushed 19 times for 75 yards.

Carson Baker's Fairborn team suffered a 42-20 loss to Tecumseh, but not after Baker opened the way for a 215-yard performance on the ground from quarterback Tyler Hamilton.

Tony Harper's Toledo (OH) St. John's team lost in its opener, but Harper was moved around in many positions. He moved up to play lineacker where he finished with six tackles and three quarterback hurries. On offense, he finished with three catches for 30 yards and three rushes for 35 yards. This Friday, St. John's opens against St. Mary's (MI) where they will unveil a brand new field turf with a special pre-game ceremony.

In Pennsylvania, teams were still scrimmaging. Two of the bigger WPIAL schools--Gateway and Bethel Park--scrimmaged at Bethel Park's stadium on Friday night. Pitt commit Jaymar Parrish caught two passes for 35 yards including a touchdown. Junior receiver Ricky Rogers--in his first snaps at Gateway--caught two passes for 155 yards; both touchdowns. One went for 80 yards, the other for 70. Keep an eye on 2014 OL Michael Grimm for Bethel Park. The Blackhawks scored both of its touchdowns on the ground behind Grimm. Grimm, 6-6 and 315 pounds, says he has a verbal offer from Pitt.

Titus Howard had an interception and a reception, in limited action, as his Clairton team scrimmaged Taylor Allderdice.

Aaron Reese did not participate in his team's final scrimmage. Reese will be out for the next three to four weeks recovering from Mono and an injured spleen.

Pitt commit Luke Maclean finished in double-digits with tackles, but his Grand Blanc lost 27-12 loss to Carman-Ainsworth.

Zach Challingsowrth's South Fayette team completed its final scrimmage on Friday against Bishop Canevin. Starters were limited to just 10 plays for offense and defense. Still, out of ten offensive plays, Challingsworth finished with three receptions and two rushes. The Lions take on McGuffey in the opener Friday.

Scott Orndoff played three total series on offense and defense, as his Seton-LaSalle team scrimmaged Montour on Friday. Orndoff had one catch for 11 yards, then finished with five tackles on defense.

Aliquippa's Dravon Henry--a 2014 prospect--scored an 80-yard touchdown On the first play of a scrimmage with Chartiers Valley. Henry followed that up with an interception on defense. The Quips open at Ambridge Saturday at 8 pm.

Pitt commit Shakir Soto saw limited action in his scrimmage on Friday. He still finished with three tackles for loss, a sack and five total tackles. Soto's GAR Memorial team opens with Lakeland on Friday.
