Chryst Suspends Six For Opener

Six suspensions include freshman running back Rushel Shell and junior defensive tackle Tyrone Ezell, who was slated to make first career start.

Paul Chryst made a couple of suspensions prior to the season starting, and made six more on The Opening day of the season.

Less than three hours before kickoff. Chryst announced that freshman receiver Chris Davis, junior defensive lineman Tyrone Ezell, sophomore defensive back Anthony Gonzalez, senior defensive lineman Shayne Hale, sophomore receiver Ronald Jones and freshman running back Rushel Shell are all suspended for tonight's opener with Youngstown State.

It was expected that Shell--a former five star recruit out of the 2012 class--would see his first playing time tonight. Shelly's absence means that Malcolm Crockett will move up to take Shell's allotment of snaps. Not to mention, with Ray Graham's status yet to be determined, the balance of carries will fall to Crockett and Isaac Bennett.

Ezell was slated to make his first career start. In his place, most likely Khaynin Mosley-Smith in his place at defensive tackle--who has already spent time with the first team defensive line in spring and in training camp. With Ezell and Hale out, it increases the likelihood of seeing freshman Darryl Render and redshirt freshman Devin Cook in a reserve role.

In a separate note, fans have been asked to move from the open seating in Heinz Field--at the moment--to covered concourses or the Great Hall due to 'severe weather' at Heinz Field.
