Damian Sims rates the Panthers highly

Pitt Insiders talked with Damian Sims to get the latest on his recruitment. The 5' 10", 180-pound athlete from Boca Raton (Fla.) Pope John Paul 11, has quite a list of scholarship offers, including one from the Panthers.

"Right now I have offers from Georgia, Syracuse, Iowa, Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Kansas State, and Pittsburgh," he said. "Right now my top one team is Virginia Tech followed by Pittsburgh and Georgia."

Sims admits that he would like to commit to a school before the season starts. If he does do that, look for him to continue to look around a bit and take a couple of official visits.

"I like all three schools but I haven't made up my mind on any of them yet," he said.

What does the South Florida native think of the Panthers?

I heard Pittsburgh is a great school and I can't wait to visit," Sims said. 'I'm going to visit Pittsburgh when Miami plays them this year. When Coach Partridge came down, I clicked with him. Some coaches make me nervous but not him. He made me feel real comfortable."

The Panthers are recruiting Damian Sims as an athlete. He stars for his high school team as a running back and cornerback. As a junior he rushed for over 1,500 yards.

"I will play wherever I can get on the field the quickest," Sims said. "The Pittsburgh coaches want to play me wherever I develop the fastest."

This summer Sims has been working hard on improving his speed and strength.

"This season is going to be my breakout year," he said. "I'm faster than I have ever been. My coach clocked me at school the other day at a 4.38 40. My squat is up to 420 pounds now."
