Florida WR Still Calls Pittsbugh

Johnny Peyton, a 6-foot-4 and 170-pound wide receiver with 4.5 speed started to turn heads in April at the Florida Nike camp. On one play at the camp, he beat one of the best cornerbacks in the state for an easy score. Pittsburgh along with several other schools recognized his tremendous upside and they offered him a scholarship. What is the latest on the Dade City (Fla.) Pasco star?

"I just got back from the LSU camp," he said. "I liked it a lot. The weather was the same as Florida. It felt like home. I got a chance to meet a bunch of the players and coaches."

The Tigers are coming on strong. Where do the Panthers stack up?

"I like LSU and Pittsburgh about the same," Peyton said. "I call Pittsburgh every now and then and talk with their offensive coordinator. We talk about general stuff. I'll be taking a visit there in the fall."

In addition to the Tigers and Panthers, Peyton has offers from Auburn and East Carolina also. Miami and Florida continue to correspond with him.

One of Peyton's main factors in choosing a school is distance from home.

"I don't want go too far from home," he said. "I wouldn't mind staying in the Southeast."

Peyton is on track to academically qualify with a 2.9 grade point average and a 19 on the ACT. He would like to major in Math.
