Video: Paul Chryst Press Conference

Pitt falls to 2-4 on the season following Saturday's. They need at least a 4-2 record in the second half of the season to be bowl eligible.

Paul Chryst talked a lot about special teams being a factor in Saturday's loss--mainly a blocked punt that led to a Louisville score. He defended his decision to try a 50-yard field goal earlier in the game.

If you look at those two plays alone, you see reason for Chryst's concern. No blocked punt, or a converted field goal, possibly even a first down on that drive...that equates to 10 points, which was the difference in the game.

Chryst also talked a little on injuries--mainly K'Waun Williams and Shane Gordon. With Williams, Chryst says it's a matter of understanding the player, and trusting the player's own opinion on where he feels. Gordon injured himself in a separate way from the way he got hurt the previous week against Syracuse.

Another key component of Monday's press conference was the subject of the ground game. Against Syracuse, Ray Graham carried the ball 24 times, but just 6 times against Louisville. Rushel Shell was limited due to a sore back against Syracuse, yet carried the ball once. Against Louisville, he ran 18 times. Chryst talks about the need to have both clicking at the same time.

Chryst and his staff have already been in this position before--coming off a two-game losing streak. As opposed to the first two games, now it's a matter of ensuring a winning season and getting to a bowl game. Pitt must win 4 of the final 6 games to do so.
