Zayd Issah rushed six times for 40 yards, caught two passes for 82 yards and recorded six tackles on defense, but Harrisburg (Pa.) Central Dauphin was eliminated in the District 3 AAAA semifinals by Harrisburg, 27-21. Central Dauphin finished 10-3 overall, winning 10 games for the third consecutive season. Issah finished his senior season with 80 tackles, 6.5 sacks, a deflected pass, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a blocked punt. He also rushed for 376 yards on 57 carries and caught 14 passes for 275 yards, scoring nine total touchdowns.
Roman Clay rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries as Lancaster Catholic was eliminated from the District 3 AAA playoffs in the semifinal round by Harrisburg (Pa.) Bishop McDevitt. Lancaster Catholic finished 9-4 overall, but was 1-3 in games where Clay didn't finish with 100 yards rushing or more. Clay finished his senior season with an impressive 2,497 yards rushing and 30 touchdowns on 279 carries, averaging 8.9 yards per rush. He ended his career with 5,940 yards and 81 rushing touchdowns, both school records. His 2,497 yards rushing in 2012 was also a school record.
James Conner rushed for 213 yards and scored three touchdowns on 20 carries as Erie (Pa.) McDowell routed State College, 42-0, in a PIAA AAAA playoff game, earning McDowell its first PIAA quarterfinal berth since 2004. Conner has rushed for a team-leading 1,645 yards and scored 26 total touchdowns for the Trojans, who have tallied a new school single-season record for total points scored (468) which tops the previous mark of 453 set in 2008.
Elijah Zeise caught five passes for 89 yards as Wexford (Pa.) North Allegheny became the first ever three-peat WPIAL AAAA champion with a 21-14 victory over Pittsburgh (Pa.) Woodland Hills Friday at Heinz Field. The WPIAL was the first league to form the AAAA classification in the state of Pennsylvania, doing so in 1980. North Allegheny has won 42 of its last 44 games, and is 13-0 in 2012. The Tigers have also topped the 500-point plateau for the third consecutive season, and presently sit at 507 points.
Tyler Boyd had an incredible WPIAL championship game performance in helping Clairton achieve its 60th consecutive victory, a state record, in a 58-21 demolition of McKees Rocks (Pa.) Sto-Rox Friday. Boyd rushed for 144 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 16 carries, completed 2-of-3 passes for 87 yards and one touchdown and caught two passes for 21 yards. He also scored a pair of two point conversions as well. Boyd has rushed for an amazing 1,982 yards and scored 42 total touchdowns and added eight two-point conversion scores for a total of 268 points. He scored a school record 324 points as a junior, which is the standard for individual scoring in a season. Titus Howard, meanwhile, caught three passes for 60 yards and one touchdown in the victory.
Aliquippa's Dravon Henry rushed for 123 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries as Aliquippa rolled to a 34-7 victory over Washington in the WPIAL AA championship game Friday. Henry has rushed for 1,439 yards as a junior and scored 24 total touchdowns for the Quips (22 rushing). Jaleel Fields was part of an offensive line which paved the way for an impressive 505 yards rushing for the Quips - which may be a championship game record. Aliquippa is 13-0 and has scored an impressive 658 points while allowing only 49.
