Alvarez: "Paul is going to stay at Pitt"

Barry Alvarez held a press conference in Madison to talk about a number of things--the departure of Bret Bielema, him taking over coaching the team for the Rose Bowl. He also had some words that should ease Pitt fans' minds.

Barry Alvarez has a bronze statue outside of Camp Randall Stadium. After his comments today, in support of Paul Chryst staying at Pitt, Pitt fans may be ready to add a bronze statue of him on its campus as well.

Alvarez, in answering a direct question as to whether or not Pitt head coach Paul Chryst would be a candidate for the heading coaching vacancy at Wisconsin, basically said Chryst belongs at Pitt.

"Paul is going to stay at Pitt," Alvarez said.

In supporting Chryst at Pitt, we gained some further insight as to how he helped land him the Pitt job.

"I asked some very close friends of mine to help Paul get that job," Alvarez added. "I wouldn't think it would be right for him to leave after one year, and I don't think it would be appropriate for me to hire him back."

"I think Paul has already come out and he he's committed to Pitt, and he should be committed to Pitt."

Chryst is on his his way to Birmingham today for an advance press conference with Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze, in preparation for the BBVA Compass Bowl.
