Matt Voytik won a quarterback battle in 2012. In his first year as a starter, he led Hickory (PA) to a 12-2 record, a Class AA District 10 Championship, and an appearance in the PIAA state Quarterfinals.
With one year as a starter under his belt, Voytik is looking to just continue his progression. He competed at a number of offseason combines last year. He looks to do the same, heading into his senior season, and more.
For starters, the offense will focus around him. Even with Deshawn Coleman being the focus of the offense, Voytik put up big numbers. In 2013, the offense is going to be built around him, which could lead to even bigger numbers.
"We're changing our whole offense," Voytik said. "We're going to run a triple option read, with a whole different design."
Voytik also runs track, and was a member of a 4x100 relay team that qualified for the state meet last year.
The college interest is steady--a lot of mail, a lot of camp invites.
"I get a lot of mail, but nothing serious yet," Voytik said. "My college coach is getting a lot of emails out, getting my film out. A lot of schools are evaluating that right now."
Voytik camped at Pitt two years ago, and will likely attend a prospect camp this summer. His cousin Chad Voytik will be a redshirt freshman at quarterback in 2013.
"I went to Pitt last year, went to a prospect camp at Penn State," Voytik said. "I also went to the U.S. Army Combine. That was fun, that whole atmosphere.
"Pitt was awesome. Those people have been coaching for the better part of their lives. I also went to the Elite 11, but I liked those (prospect) camps a lot better."
In his first year as a starter, Voytik completed 74-188 (62.7%) of his passes. He threw for over 1,200 yards with eight touchdowns, and also rushed for another 600 yards.
