Gontarek Catching On

Rick Conner has sent a number of players on to the next level; Penn State's Zach Zwinak and Maryland's Joe Riddle, just to name a couple. His junior receiver, Josh Gontarek, is starting to pick up interest.

Rick Conner doesn't hesitate in showing his enthusiasm when talking about junior receiver Josh Gontarek.

A two sport standout at Linganore High School--football and baseball--Gontarek finished with 964 yards receiving as a junior, including one game where he caught 11 passes for over 300 yards.

Primarily a receiver, Gontarek also returns kicks and plays corner.

"He's the best skilled kid I've coached," Conner said. "He's also a lockdown corner, and he's got that swag you can't coach."

Gontarek has heard from schools such as Maryland and N.C. State. Several FCS schools, including James Madison and Towson, have invited him to their top junior days. Gontarek will camp at Maryland, for sure.

"I've always loved Maryland my whole life, I loved seeing them play against North Carolina and Virginia Tech. I think it's going to be cool seeing them in the Big Ten, soon."

Despite not being offered by the Terps yet, he has a great relationship with the coaching staff, particularly Greg Gattuso.

"I really like coach Gattuso," Gontarek added. "He's a good guy. We always joke around with each other. I've had a good time going down there to watch practice and sit in on meetings."
