Pro-Am League: Championship, All-League

In addition to the Pittsburgh Pro-Am Championship on Wednesday, Talib Zanna and Josh Newkirk earn League MVP and Top Freshman honor, respectively.

There couldn't have been a better way to wrap up the Pittsburgh Pro-Am League than by having a shootout.

PGT Trucking--sparked by Pitt's Talib Zanna and James Robinson--held off The Lair, 108-101, to claim this year's title.

Zanna had another game reflective of his performance in every game this summer, 37 points and 16 rebounds.

Robinson--a teammate of Zanna's before and after his appearance at the World Basketball Champioships in the Czech Republic--added 24 points and eight assists, the most assists Robinson had in a game in this summer's league.

Also contributing tonight for the winning team were true freshmen Mike Young and Jamel Artis, last-minute fill-ins. Young added 24 points and 10 rebounds, followed by a well-rounded game from Artis; 14 points, six bounds and five assists.

Jermaih Jones led The Lair in the losing effort, with 28 points. Duquesne's Ovie Soko--keeping with his consistency through the summer--finished with 20 points in the loss.

Afterwards, the League MVP and All-League spots were announced.

Zanna was named the League MVP. Pitt's Josh Newkirk was named Top Freshman.

The rest of the All-League spots went to Soko--also a candidate for League MVP, Derrick Colter (Duquesne), Nolan Cressler (Cornell), Lucky Jones (Robert Morris). Pro players Lance Jeter and Chevon Troutman rounded out the All-League team.
