Video: Paul Chryst Press Conference

Paul Chryst looks ahead to Duke, but also handled a number of questions about his players at Monday's press conference.

A lot of the questions directed at Paul Chryst on Monday weren't about the win over New Mexico, or the game ahead against Duke.

For starters, Chryst talked about the play of quarterback Tom Savage, who bounced back after throwing an interception on his first play of the game. Savage went on to complete 13-17 passes for 236 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

"I think he's done a pretty good job," Chryst said of Savage. "I love his approach, and that's important because he wants to learn and takes ownership of it. Those are fun guys to coach."

Chryst even talked about true freshman Dorian Johnson, who saw his first action. Johnson came in as an extra tight end. Not that the Panthers need an extra tight end. It's a matter of finding a way to use Johnson, because Chryst and the rest of the coaching staff feel he's ready to contribute.

""Right now we think Dorian's a guy that is certainly ready to contribute, and we think there are ways that we can use him," Chryst said. "It may differ from game to game, but certainly when we play a guy we want to make sure that we're committed enough to make it a worthwhile year for the young man. We'll have some things for Dorian. If something happened at one of the tackle spots, he'd absolutely play, and there are some other ways we might look at using him."
