After wrapping up his indoor track season, Malik Russell went right into preparations for his senior season of football at Penn Hills.
Russell was at the Pylon 7-on-7 at Youngstown State this weekend, but a big part of his earth offseason has simply been getting ready with the rest of his team for the 2014 season.
"I'm playing corner this year, but if the first team needs a break, I'll hop in at receiver," Russell said. "Right now, I'm working on my corner technique, my patience at the line, jamming receivers, but mainly ball skills. I'll get there.
"We have a big senior class. We have our whole starting defense and offense coming back."
Russell has also had a couple unofficial visits in-state, and he's planning some more for later this spring.
"I'm went to Lafayette a couple weeks ago, and I've been getting a lot of emails from colleges about coming to their camp," Russell said. "I went to Penn a State. That's it so far, Lafayette and Penn State. Penn State was lovely. The campus, the facilities, I liked it at Penn State."
One camp he knows he'll be going to, for sure, is Pittsburgh.
"Yeah, I'll probably go there," Russell said. "I went my freshman year, and I'm going this year. I like their coaching staff. They should be better. I like the DB coach a lot."
