Howe Commits To Panthers

Panthers bulk up on the defensive line, with Kettering (OH) Archbishop Alter defensive tackle Kraig Howe.

< p>In the past two weeks, Paul Chryst has been stocking his 2015 recruiting class with skill players, most recently receiver Tre Tipton on Saturday.

Tuesday afternoon he got a commit from an extreme position of need, defensive tackle, as Kettering (OH) Archbishop Alter defensive tackle Kraig Howe gave the Panthers a verbal commitment.

"Extremely excited to announce that I am officially committed to play football at the University of Pittsburgh!!" Howe tweeted, on Tuesday afternoon.

Pitt is expected to take a much smaller class in 2015. Howe gives the Panthers eight commitments, but the first defensive tackle--expected to be a position of emphasis in this 2015 class.

Pitt also has an offensive line commit from Canon-McMillan's Alex Paulina, and a commit from Altoona's Kevin Givens--a player who could ultimately end up at defensive line. Though Chryst isn't done adding to his class, things are starting to look promising on the young end of the depth chart with Givens and Howe committed for 2015, and 2014 early enrollee Rori Blair already in the mix.

Howe chose the Panthers over offers from Northwestern, Iowa State, Illinois and Boston College.

Howe also excels on the basketball court, and is a 3.8 student. He was recruited by offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph. In addition to taking a recent visit, Howe came in for both the New Mexico and Notre Dame games.

Stay tuned for more on Howe's commitment.
