Rowell To Have Season-Ending Surgery

Artie Rowell had started last 15 games at center for Pitt.

Pittsburgh has lost starting center Artie Rowell for the season, after he suffered a torn left ACL in Friday's win at Boston College.

"I know I speak for our entire team in saying we are very disappointed for Artie,” head coach Paul Chryst said. “I’m certain he will attack his rehabilitation with everything he has to get himself ready for next season."

Rowell injured his knee in the second quarter of Friday's game. He was replaced by redshirt sophomore Gabe Roberts, who is likely to take over starting duties for the remainder of the season.

Rowell made 15 consecutive starts after winning the position battle with Roberts after the 2013 training camp. He was also on the preseason watch list for the Rimington Award, given to the nation's top center.

Pitt returns to action this Saturday, traveling to Miami to take on Florida International. Kickoff is set for noon, and will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
