After the most successful season in over a decade, Coach Howland has been given a contract extension that will run through the 2005-06 season. There was some concern this spring over Howland's future with the Panthers when he was named as a front-runner for the top position at UNLV. Last season, he was able to lead the team to a 19-16 record, the championship game of the Big East Tournament and the second round of the NIT. Although the exact terms were not disclosed, the contract will include a slight raise.
At the press conference, Coach also mentioned that they might have an announcement to make on Monday. A junior college forward is expected to enroll once classes start. Our sources tell us he will be Ontario Lett, a 6-6 forward from Pensacola JC. He would be the third recruit in the current class, the others being guards Carl Krauser and Tony Tate. Krauser is a partial qualifier who will only be able to practice with the team this season.
