Panthers to open ACC play at home v. Syracuse

Pitt will begin Atlantic Coast Conference play at home Dec. 30 against Syracuse as a part of the ACC Tip-off.

Matchups between the Panthers and Syracuse Orange tend to deliver some pretty good basketball games. Last season, Pitt hosted Syracuse in front of the first ever "Blackout" as the Panthers donned black jerseys and staged a late comeback to beat the Orange 83-77 at the Petersen Events Center in February.

This season, the Panthers and Orange waste no time in adding the next chapter to their extensive rivalry.

Pitt will host Syracuse Dec. 30 at 9 p.m. as a part of the ACC Tip-off, the league and ESPN announced Wednesday. The game will be nationally televised and the second played in the 63rd season of ACC Basketball after Clemson and North Carolina play at 7 p.m.

"We have a great rivalry with Syracuse dating back to our time in the Big East," Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon said in a release. "Our rivalry has only continued in the ACC and we are excited to showcase it as the primetime game of the ACC Tip-Off."
