Boyd named ACC Receiver of the Week

A Pitt player earned league recognition for third consecutive week as Tyler Boyd was named the ACC Receiver of the Week.

Whether he and the rest of his teammates might not admit it, the loss of James Conner to a season-ending knee injury assigned more pressure to Tyler Boyd.

So far, he's exceeded any heightened expectations.

Boyd was named the ACC Receiver of the Week after the junior wideout caught 10 passes for 131 yards and a game-tying touchdown with 52 seconds to play during Pitt's 27-24 loss at Iowa. His performance followed a 11-catch, 95-yard game against Akron the week prior.

Despite missing the Panthers' first game against Youngstown State, Boyd leads the ACC with 21 receptions and ranks fifth with 226 yards.

Boyd moved past Latef Grim into second place on the program's all-time receptions list and now has 184 in his career. He is well on his way to breaking Devin Street's program record of 202 career catches, set in 2013.

The Clairton native also ranks as the nation's active leader with 6.57 receptions per game, third with 95 receiving yards per game and 140.89 all-purpose yards per game. Boyd is the ACC's active career leader in each category.

Pitt-VT to kick at noon

The Panthers have their only bye week of the season this week before they open conference play in Blacksburg Oct. 3. Pitt announced today the game will kick off at noon and be broadcast on ROOT Sports.
