Galambos, Whitehead earn ACC honors

For the fifth time in as many games this season, a Panther was recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference for his play during the previous week's games.

Two more players joined the growing group that have earned weekly recognition from the ACC. Matt Galambos was named the ACC Linebacker of the Week while Jordan Whitehead was tabbed the league's Rookie of the Week.

Eight Pitt players have now earned a weekly award from the conference.

Galambos collected five tackles, two sacks and an interception in Pitt's 26-19 win against Virginia Saturday. The junior linebacker's interception came at a particularly opportune time for the Panthers.

Pitt held a 17-10 lead out of the half and Virginia drove to the Panthers' 34-yard line, poised to score and potentially tie the game. Galambos picked off a pass attempt by Matt Johns and returned it 51 yards to the Cavaliers' 20, and the Panthers scored two plays later to take a 24-10 lead.

Whitehead led the team in tackles for the third consecutive week with 12 stops. He now leads the team with 41 tackles this season despite not starting until Pitt's third game, but has posted double-digit tackle performances in each week since.
