Whitehead named Freshman All-American

Jordan Whitehead was named to the Sporting News Freshman All-American team, announced Wednesday.

Pitt freshman safety Jordan Whitehead notched another postseason honor Wednesday as he was named to the Sporting News Freshman All-American team. The Central Valley product was also named to the USA Today Freshman All-America team. 

Whitehead led the team with 99 tackles and became the first freshman to lead the team in tackles since 1999. His 99 stops were the most by a Pitt freshman in 28 years, after Marc Spindler had 106. 

The Aliquippa, Pa., native won the ACC Overall and Defensive Rookie of the Year awards and was named to the All-ACC Third Team.
