Artis leads Pitt past Syracuse

The Panthers went on the road and took care of business with a convincing win over the Orange, 66-52. Jamel Artis led the way for Pitt with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Tyler Lydon had a big day for Cuse with 21 points, but it would not be enough for the win.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) Jamel Artis had 21 points, including a tie-breaking 3-pointer, James Robinson added 13, and Pittsburgh beat Syracuse 66-52 on Saturday.

Pittsburgh (19-7, 8-6 ACC), which snapped a three-game skid on Tuesday with a 101-96 double-overtime victory at home over Wake Forest, has won four straight against Syracuse.

Syracuse (18-10, 8-7 ACC) lost its second straight after a five-game winning streak.

It was a game for position in the mid-pack of the Atlantic Coast Conference and a chance for both teams to boost their resumes for the postseason. The Orange were ranked 41st in RPI and Pitt just four spots below.

Freshman Tyler Lydon led Syracuse, matching his season high with 21 points, and Michael Gbinije had 10, matching his season low.

Syracuse's top four scorers - Gbinije, Richardson, Trevor Cooney and Tyler Roberson - were held in check the entire game, going 3 for 10 in the opening half as Lydon nearly singlehandedly kept the Orange in the game with 13 points.
