Morelli has been a starter since his freshman year at Penn Hills High School. He completed 78 of 148 passes for 1,880 yards for 21 TD's with only nine interceptions last season in a run-oriented offense. He has passed for 3,800 yards and 38 TD's during his high school career. Last year he helped lead Penn Hills to a 10-2 record and the class 4A playoffs.
Morelli was invited to the prestigious EA Sports Elite 11 QB Camp this past July and was voted "strongest arm" at that camp. He was also invited to that same camp before his junior year, which is unheard of, after being noticed at a camp earlier that summer.
Most experts feel Morelli has an NFL arm right now. Many compare his outstanding arm strength and quick release to that of NFL great Dan Marino. One early recruiting ranking lists the Panthers recruiting class #8 in the country so far, and that was before they landed Morelli.
The Panthers coaching staff has done an outstanding job of keeping the best players in Western PA home this year. There was a lot of talk and wavering by recruits earlier in the year about the Big East and Pitt's future, but once the top ranking schools' officials made it known that Pitt will always compete at the highest levels in college football no matter what, everything has fallen into place.
