PITT PROGNOSIS: What does this week's injury report mean?

With the names of two heavily relied-upon players featured on Pitt's week seven injury list, Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi will have to tap into his list of reserves. But how deep into the bench will Narduzzi go?

OAKLAND--Pitt released its ACC-mandated injury report Thursday.

LB Mike Caprara (lower body)

WR Zach Challingsworth (upper extremity)

DB Avonte Maddox (upper extremity)

WR Dontez Ford (upper body)

LB Elijah Zeise (lower body)

Out for the Season

TE Chris Clark (lower body)
DL Zack Gilbert (medical)
OL Mike Grimm (lower body)
DE Dewayne Hendrix (lower body)

What stands out here? Redshirt senior linebacker Mike Caprara is still listed on it, and junior cornerback Avonte Maddox joined the list after injuring what appeared to be his arm last Saturday against Georgia Tech.

The last game Caprara played in was Pitt's marathon game at Oklahoma State. Pitt's defense could have used his discipline last week against Georgia Tech and its triple option, which covered 241 yards on the ground.

In Caprara's absence, freshman linebacker Saleem Brightwell and senior linebacker Bam Bradley have combined for 21 total tackles over two games.

We mentioned Monday that freshmen cornerbacks Damar Hamlin and Therran Coleman were listed on Pitt's two-deep for the first time all season. With Ryan Lewis in Maddox's spot as Pitt's no. 1 cornerback, Narduzzi went with Dane Jackson at the no. 2 spot last week while using a combination of Reggie Mitchell and Dennis Briggs in the nickel package, but that was only for a couple quarters of the game.

But will he go to Hamlin or Coleman at all this week, burning either's redshirt?

Narduzzi stayed secretive when asked about it Monday.

"Damar [Hamlin] and Therran [Coleman], for really the last three weeks, have been battling back and forth. And you know, we've traveled to both of them I think the last two or three weeks, and they are just getting closer. They are freshmen and we'll see how much closer they are."
