The Panthers take on the #1 team in the country Thursday night at Heinz Field. Pitt coming off an embarrassing 35-26 upset loss to South Florida looks to rebound and show improvement in all phases of its game. Not only is Miami the #1 team in the country, but they probably have the #1 offensive line and QB (Ken Dorsey) in the country also. They also go 4 deep at running back (Clinton Portis, Najeh Davenport, Willis McGhee and Jarrett Payton) and any of the four would start for just about any team in the country. Miami beat Penn State 33-7 in the opener, and could have beat them a lot worse if they didn't call of the dogs at halftime in that game. They also beat Rutgers 61-0 in their second game of the season. Miami has a strong running game on offense and on defense they are strong against the run and pass, but probably a little stronger against the pass. For Pitt to have any chance against Miami they have to play mistake free football. They cannot afford special teams turnovers like they did against USF, and cannot give up the big play to Miami. Pitt will have to try and establish some sort of a running game to keep Miami honest because they have a strong pass rush. Pitt will also look to jump on Miami early and get the crowd into the game.
To all Pitt fans… if the team every needed you, it is for this game. Get in your seats early, be vocal, support the team and try and create a home field advantage!!! Don't forget to leave early because a large crowd is expected.
Miami - 38
