Syracuse Orangemen come to town

Syracuse comes to Heinz field Saturday at noon to take on the Panthers for Homecoming.  Syracuse holds an all-time series edge in wins with a 28-25-3 record.  They have won the last 10 in a row, with the last Pitt win coming in 1989.  The Orangemen won last year 24-17 in a double overtime game in the Carrier Dome.  Syracuse is 4-2 overall after starting with a 0-2 record. They are 1-0 in the Big East after beating Rutgers last Saturday for a hard fought 24-17 victory. Pitt is coming off a turnover filled, 24-7 loss to Notre Dame. Syracuse is led by RB James Mungro on offense; he has 605 yards rushing already and 6 TD's. The Orangemen have a tough defense; they held an excellent Georgia Tech offense to only 13 points in their opener.

Dwight Freeney leads the defensive charge for Syracuse, he is an All-American candidate at DE. He has 11 sacks already, and 18 tackles for losses. Key's for the Panthers in beating Syracuse will be eliminating the 5 turnovers they had last week, and stopping a strong Syracuse running game. Pitt needs to get its passing game going early to have a chance, and they must establish a running game to keep a strong Orangemen defensive line honest. The Panthers have given up numerous big plays to Syracuse in the last few years and must stop them from easy scores to have any chance of winning. Pitt needs to win this game if it wants to have any chance at a bowl game, so the pressure will be on.

May be going with my heart instead of my head on this one, but I think Pitt will finally put it all together and beat Syracuse in a tight game.

Pitt – 21

Syracuse - 17
