Pitt May lose Possible Recruit

One time Pittsburgh commitment Alphonso Smith helped lead his team Pahokee to a Class 2A state championship victory over Lake Butler Union County this past weekend. The Pitt Insider was on hand for the win.

"It feels great to come this far and pull it out," Smith said. "It was a total team effort and I'm very proud to be a Pahokee Blue Devil."

The 5-foot-9 and 175 pound quarterback was dynamic running the ball and passing it. He's silky smooth and it appears that he's got the speed, quickness and athletic ability to line up on either side of the ball in college. On several plays, he made multiple players miss. His arm strength and decision making ability was also very good at this point of his growing career.

Smith completed 7-of-19 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns.

Smith told The Pitt insider that he still has plans to officially visit the Panthers in January.

In other news, Pittsburgh wide receiver commitment Johnny Peyton has concern for the loss of the offensive coordinator/wide receiver coach. The Pasco County standout told his friend, Drew Weatherford that he would like to visit Florida State with him.

Johnny told me that Pittsburgh is losing their offensive coordinator/wide receiver coach," Weatherford said in an interview with The Territory.org. "Tomorrow, we play his team in basketball and he's bringing his senior film. He wants me to give it to Florida State. He would like to visit Florida State with me on (1/23).
