South Florida OL Keeping Options Open….

With so many talented players in South Florida each year there are always a few that slip through the cracks. The Pittsburgh Panthers have been fortunate to have a few of those players come their way. Recently the Panthers signed players from South Florida like Clint Sessions, HB Blades, Torrie Cox and Antonio Bryant.

Another player that fits in this mold is Offensive Lineman Chris Rutledge from DR. Krop High School in Miami, Florida. Rutledge is a 6-foot-7, 280-pound tackle that has kind of slipped under the radar this year.

When it comes to where he is going to spend the next few years of his college football career, here is what Rutledge had to say: "I want to go to a school that not only has a great football program but Academics are important as well. I also want to go to a school that I feel comfortable with other players on the team, and live in an area that I will enjoy being in as well"…."I also don't want to go somewhere where I will have to sit on the bench for 3 years."

So who are the schools that lead at this time? His response: "Well UF, Miami, Pittsburgh, NC State, Miami and Rutgers are the ones that I am looking at the hardest. I have already visited both Pittsburgh and NC State. I will visit UF on the 9th, Miami on the 16th, and Rutgers on the 23rd."

Does Rutledge have a leader at this time? "No all the schools are even right now, each of the ones that are on my final list have as good of a chance as the others," he said.

Rutledge discussed with us what he thought about some of the other schools that are recruiting him: "I have only been to Miami for an unofficial visit and I really like their program. My cousin also goes there and runs track for them. Rutgers is a school I can't wait to visit because of coach Cristopal and coach Rizzi. Both coaches are real characters and are fun to be around. Coach Anderson from Florida has recruited me pretty hard and does not sugar coat anything. He is a strait shooter and I like him a lot."

When it comes to the Panthers, Rutledge talked about Coach Partridge: "Coach is a great guy and I would not mind playing for him. He has recruited me hard and told me he would like it if I came up to Pittsburgh to play. He also said if I work hard and do the things that are asked of me I can see the field early for the Panthers offense."

Is there a date that is set that Rutledge will make a commitment? "Yes it will be around the 25th or 26 th of January."
