Pitt takes on #12 Virginia Tech Saturday

VT is coming off a 22-14 upset loss last Saturday to Syracuse. They will obviously be fired up and looking to get back on the winning track again. VT is ranked #1 in the Big East in total defense and 2nd in the conference in total offense. Vt has a strong one-two punch at RB with Keith Burnell and All-World recruit Kevin Jones. Burnell is 117 for 565 yards and 9 TD's for a 4.8 average per carry. Jones is 89 for 460 yards and 2 TD's for a 5.2 average per carry. Noel Grant is the #2 rated QB in the Big East. He is 104 of 172 for 1303 yards and 11 TD's and only 3 int's. The top VT WR is Andre Davis, he has 24 catches for 357 yards and 4 TD's. He is also a great punt returner and has the speed to take any play to the end zone.  Senior LB Ben Taylor, who leads an outstanding defense that is very fast and excellent against the run, leads VT on defense. VT is well known for great special teams play and can block a kick or punt at any time. Pitt is coming off a much-needed win over Temple 33-7. The defense was outstanding and the offense was clearly improved. Still, the Panthers had 4 more turnovers and almost 100 yards in penalty's and they will not be able to stay with VT is they continue to have these problems. Pitt has played VT tough the last few years and was very close to upsetting them last season. Syracuse took it to VT last week and Pitt clearly outplayed Syracuse for the first half in their contest, so if Pitt gets some breaks, breaks a few big plays, and keeps from turning the ball over, you never know. The Panthers know that they need to upset VT to keep their slim playoff chances alive. Hopefully Pitt fans will show up and support the team in this seasons last chance to upset a top team. Lots of recruits will be on hand, so it would be nice for them to see and hear a loud and supportive crowd!!!
