South Florida Standout LB Commits

As expected, star Florida LB Vernon Smith from Ft. Lauderdale (Dillard) has verbally committed to Pittsburgh.

"I just felt real comfortable there," says Smith. "And playing time is very important. I was told that I can compete for a starting job early on."

Smith will join friends Kelvin Chandler, Clint Session, and H.B. Blades, all from the south Florida area, and it was a very important part of his decision.

Smith also says that he loves the pipeline the Panthers are establishing in the area saying, "We want to bring the south Florida attitude up there."

Smith also is happy to be playing for Coach Walt Harris.

"I am really excited. He is a really good coach who does a really good job getting players from down here."

At 6'1" and 230 pounds, Smith was recruited as a middle linebacker.
