Ryan Herting, a 6'2" 205 pound LB from central PA has walked on at Pittsburgh after spurning three schools that offered a scholarship and three other powerful programs that were looking for him to also walk on.
Herting, who at the advice of his high school coach, George Chaump, then head coach at Central Dauphin HS in Harrisburg, attended Hargrave Military Academy this past year. The decision was made after an injury-plagued career did not bring the Division 1 offers he had hoped for.
Herting visited Tennessee, Maryland, and Georgia and was offered by Marshall, East Carolina, and Kent. Herting's dad, Gary, played at Tennessee and there was some emotional ties for the family, but Herting decided to accept Coach Walt Harris' offer to be a preferred walk on. For the Panthers.
Herting is a very good athlete, running a 4.75 40 and having a vertical jump of 33".
Panthers to add quality walk-on LB
