Central Pa linebacker attracting interest

Altoona High School is entering a new conference this season, the Mid-Penn. Coach Phil Riccio's team will feature a number of talented players. Zach Haulman has attracted a lot of attention to Altoona, but there are several others who are attracting Div-1 attention.

One of these players is LB Mitch Rhodes, 6-3, 220 and still growing. Rhodes is a LB at Altoona but will most likely project as a DE at the next level.

Mitch has received attention from Virginia, Virginia Tech, Illinois, Purdue and several 1-AA teams. His favorites are Pitt, Penn State, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.

"I have a strange household, my mom loves Penn State and my dad is a huge Pitt fan so I guess I'm 50/50 with those two."

Rhodes runs a 4.9 forty, benches 255 and squats 480. He finished his junior campaign with 95 tackles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 4 sacks. I recently interviewed Mitch and here's what he had to say.

Are you looking to stay close to home, as far as selecting your school?

"I'd like to stay relatively close, but we'll wait and see what happens."

What are you looking for in a school?

"Solid academics and a good program."

What are your plans for camps this summer?

"Me and Haulman plan on going to 5-6 camps together; I'm hoping to get invited to the Nike camp at Penn State."

Are you and Zach close?

"Yes, that's what makes our team special, since we were in 10th grade we all bonded and made a pact that we were going to make a run at a state championship."

How would you describe your style of play?

"Physical, not much finesse, I like to hit."

What other sports do you participate in?

"I'm the 6th man on our basketball team."

After I originally interviewed Rhodes, he informed me that he was going to try and get accepted to the Joe Butler Metro-Index camp.
