Top PA lineman getting a lot of interest

The state of PA has many excellent linemen for the class of 2005 and one of the most coveted resides in the Pittsburgh area.

Brandon Richardson from New Brighton (HS) PA is a 6'4" 320 pound offensive and defensive lineman that is being highly recruited by just about every school in the country.

"I have received at least fifteen letters from just about everyone", says Richardson. "The ones I have heard the most from are Pittsburgh, Penn State, North Carolina, Syracuse, Boston College, and Florida State."

Richardson has started since his 9th Grade year, mostly on defense, though he is being looked at for both offense and defense at the next level, either as an offensive tackle or defensive tackle.

"Penn State and Pitt likes me for defense, too," states Richardson.

New Brighton coach Joe Greco says that while his star player has mostly played on defense in high school, he has the skills to be an excellent offensive tackle.

"He has good feet, is very flexible, and is intelligent," says Greco, who also is impressed by Richardson's toughness. "He was injured last year. He broke his hand and it was in a cast for six weeks, but he kept playing."

Richardson also benches 315 pounds, squats 500, and is excellent in track and field, finishing second in the WPIAL in the discus.

As for camps, Richardson plans to go to the Metro Index Camp in Pittsburgh, along with the Penn State and Pitt camps.

Richardson has unofficially visited Pitt and Penn State and recently had courtside seats to the Pitt-UConn game, courtesy of the Pitt program.

Not going too far from home is important for Richardson so that his family and friends can see him play, but as he says, "I don't need to play in my backyard either."

His current favorite?

"I would say Pittsburgh. I like them. I know a lot of people that go there."

Richardson also excels as a student with a 3.7 GPA and a 1100 on his PSAT.
