New Jersey pass rush specialist in Pitt's future?

Maplewood, NJ - The University of Pittsburgh hasn't had a bonafide pass rusher since Bryan Knight departed for the NFL at the end of the 2001 season.<br><br> One from Essex County, NJ could be in the Panthers future. 6-4, 215 4.6 DE Denzel Burrell Columbia High School has Pittsburgh in his preliminary top 3 list, along with Maryland and Purdue. Besides his three favorites Burrell has been hearing from North Carolina and North Carolina State.

Burrell earned 1st Team All-Area, 1st Team All Iron Hills Conference, 1st Team All- Essex County during his junior season. Columbia was 3-6 on the year in the North 2 Group 4 division under Head Coach Jeff Boni, who is no longer at the school. Denzel had 75 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 23 quarter back pressures, 4 fumble recoveries and batted down 6 passes.

Who did you follow growing up?

"The Florida State Seminoles."

How are your grades?

"I have a 3.3 GPA and I am taking my boards March 27th."

Where are you going to be camping?

"I'll be attending the Nike camp at Penn State, I may go to Purdue and Maryland camps."

Who do you like too watch on TV?

"I don't have one certain player that I watch. I do like Steve McNair of the Tennessee Titans; I like his style and the way he plays. On defense I would say Jevon Kearse or Dwight Freeney."

How does Denzel Burrell play the game?

"I give 110% every down, I fly to the ball, for me every play is non-stop battery."

What are your goals for this season?

"To improve on this past season, make the All-State team, and hopefully get a scholarship offer to play college football."

What are you looking for in a school?

"Academics are important to me, playing time and if the school has my major. I am thinking of majoring in sports management or sports medicine, or possibly some type of criminal law."

Do you participate in any other sports?

"I played baseball up until this year. I am concentrating on football right now, lifting weights and I will be attending speed school soon."

When will you decide on your school?

"Probably January of my senior year after my season and I have a chance to sort everything out."
