Athletic Ohio CB getting major interest

One of the fastest rising players in Ohio is also one of its fastest, period.

Bruce Hampton of Cleveland (OH) Heights HS is a 5'11" 180 pound CB with 4.47 speed and a 32" vertical jump. But he also has the strength that few true cover corners have, benching 260 and squatting 405.

Bruce Hampton, who recently transferred from Bedford Chanel, also plans to run track at his new school, competing in the 200m, the 4X200, relay, and the 400m.

The list of potential suitors is growing for the star athlete with the most interest thus far coming from Pittsburgh, Iowa, Northwestern, Bowling Green, Ohio State, West Virginia, Michigan, and Cincinnati.

Hampton expects a busy summer traveling from camp to camp. He plans on going to the Nike Combine at Ohio State, plus camps at Ohio State, Northwestern, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Pittsburgh where Hampton camped last year and liked it.

"Yeah, I went there last year I was really impressed with everything," says Hampton. He also is going to Pitt's Junior Day on March 6th.

Hampton says he is wide open, but it's obvious there is one place that he would look at more than most.

"I'm from Ohio, and every kid in Ohio would love to play for Ohio State," laughs Hampton, who points out that he is friends with Ohio State commit Ted Ginn and Ohio State early verbal Jamario O'Neal, also both cornerbacks.

"But I am wide open," says Hampton. "I want to go to whoever shows they want me the most."

And he will wait until he knows for sure who that is.

"I'm not going to set you up for the surprise. When the right team comes along, I may commit right then."

An excellent student, Hampton has a 3.9 GPA and has already scored a 23 on his ACT.
