Western PA LB getting heavy interest from Pitt

Gateway HS in Monroeville, PA has three high Division 1 players this season, the biggest being star RB/CB Justin King. But LB Mike Barlak is starting to get noticed more and more, mostly from his favorite team growing up.

"My mom and sister went to Pitt," says Barlak. "It's always been where I would like to go."

Mike Barlak recently attended the Pittsburgh-Syracuse basketball game at the request of the Pitt football staff and is expected, along with teammates King and Matt Houy, to attend Pitt's Junior Day this weekend.

The 6'1" 215 pound linebacker is also hearing from Syracuse and West Virginia, and says that while Syracuse has given him the most attention thus far, Pitt has stepped up their interest.

Barlak has good 4.7 speed and a 29" vertical jump, and is very strong, benching 330 pounds and squatting 550 pounds.

Though the hometown Panthers are Barlak's early favorite, he says that as long as he stays within about four hours from home, he will be happy. He also says that he will commit early if the right team offers.

Barlak is also an excellent student, with a 3.0 GPA and a 1030 SAT.
