Pitt looks to keep its turnaround going this Saturday against Rutgers. The Panthers are coming off a stunning upset of then #12 Virginia tech, 33-7. Rutgers is coming off an embarrassing 80-7 loss to West Virginia. That score was surprising considering they played Syracuse tough to the final minute in a 24-17 loss, plus they were coming off a 23-17 win over Navy. It's hard to tell what Rutgers team will show up each week, but you can bet they will come out hard and looking to save face after last week's blowout.
Rutgers is led on offense by freshmen QB Ryan Cubit. He is 93 of 200 for 1,140 yards with 8 TD's and 17 int's. His top-receiving target is Aaron Martin who has 18 catches for 422 yards and 3 TD's. The top Rutgers rusher is Dennis Thomas who has 309 yards on 80 carries for 1 TD. Raheem Orr leads the Knights on defense with 5 sacks and 10 tackles for a loss.
Pitt has dominated on defense the last 2 weeks and the offense has really turned itself around with a solid passing game and an improving rushing attack. Some think Pitt will take Rutgers lightly and struggle, but after all the misery they went through earlier in the season with all the losses, I think the team will be focused on playing well and improving their record towards a possible bowl invitation. After this Saturday's game, they have 2 weeks off before they play WVU, so there is no reason to overlook Rutgers.
