NY defensive tackle among state's best

There is a two-sport high school star in southern New York and many colleges know his name. Now they just have to convince him to play for them.

Arthur Jones, from Union-Endicott HS in Endicott, NY, is a 6'3" 276-pound defensive tackle that dominates the line of scrimmage thanks to the other sport that he stars in.

"I was 30-1 this season in wrestling," says Jones, who wrestled as a heavyweight. "I won the state championship last season and was runner-up this year."

It is his expertise at leverage, combined with good athleticism, that has many colleges inquiring about him.

"I've heard mostly from Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Boston College, and Iowa," says Jones, who goes on to say that the home state Orangemen are the first to offer, much to the happiness of Jones.

"I would say Syracuse is my favorite right now. And my mother would like for me to stay close to home. I would like for my parents to be able to see me play."

Jones, who runs the 40 in 5.3 and benches 270 pounds, will probably wait awhile before he commits anywhere because he wants to see what other offers he gets. And who are those others?

After Syracuse, he says next in line are Boston College, who has been after him hard, and Alabama, Michigan, and Michigan State, who has sent him letters but not as much as Syracuse, Boston College, and Pittsburgh.

Jones said he will probably camp at Syracuse and Iowa and also will be attending the Nike Combine.
