Versatile athlete preparing for his senior season

Basketball season is finally winding down in Pennsylvania. The Jeannette Jayhawks lost in the 2nd round of the PIAA playoffs to Beaver Falls and finished with a 24-6 record. The leading scorer and point guard, is also the team's star quarterback.

QB Jordan Thomas 6-1, 185, 4.5 led the basketball team with 15 points a game. In 2003 the very talented young man threw for over 1,500 yards and 16 touchdown passes. The fleet footed Thomas rushed for 400 yards and scored 8 touchdowns on the ground. Jordan also happens to be a very capable defensive back as well, picking off 4 passes.

Iowa, Virginia, Indiana, West Virginia, Syracuse have been recruiting Jordan the hardest so far. His favorites include Notre Dame, West Virginia, Michigan, Ohio State, and Pittsburgh. Jordan is not shy when naming his favorite team.

"I love Notre Dame, I have always followed them. I realize I may not go there but they've always been my team."

One of Jordan's teammates was a member of West Virginia's 2004 recruiting class - Mike Dent. So has Mike been swaying Jordan towards the Mountaineers?

"He tells me to look at all my options, but of course he always tells me to come to WVU too."

Head coach Robert Murphy is very proud of his young star athlete, on and off the field.

"He is such a fierce competitor, he's an exceptional athlete. He is also a very bright kid, and one of the nicest young men I've been around. He has the whole package."

Jordan likes defense as much as offense, and has been recruited as a QB and a DB.

" I like both positions, I have heard from schools that like me as a QB, but then I'll hear from a school that likes me as a DB."

Jordan is obviously a well-rounded athlete, but what are his best attributes on the field?

"On offense I am a leader, I take charge in the huddle. On defense I am always after the ball. I play corner and safety. Being a QB helps me in the secondary, especially at safety. When I play safety I can read the quarterbacks eyes and watch his reads."

Thomas carries a 3.5 GPA and will be taking his college boards soon. Jordan was named 1st Team All-Conference (Interstate) and 1st Team All-Region.
