One of the nation's best talks about Pittsburgh

When all of the pre-season rankings begin to appear in the upcoming months, one player who will be at or near the top of most of the linebacker lists is Rico McCoy (6-2, 215, 4.5) from St. Johns College High School (Washington, D.C). McCoy has early offers from Pittsburgh, Maryland, Boston College, and Syracuse.

Rico and his family attended Blue Chip Day at the University of Pittsburgh this weekend. The family, along with Rico's best friend and Dematha High School star Anthony Wiseman, will be heading to Syracuse during Easter weekend. Rico's older brother Reggie is a red shirt freshman for the Orangemen. The following weekend they, will head to NC State to check out coach Chuck Amato's program.

McCoy had 120 tackles, 5 sacks, and caused 3 fumbles, while earning 1st Team All-Metro and 1st Team All-League Honors in 2003.

Insiders interview with Rico McCoy on his trip to Pittsburgh

During the scrimmage, what stood out for you?

"I was watching the two young linebackers, Blades and Session. Session gets after it."

What was the highlight of the trip?

"Spending time with coach Harris, when I was in that office with my family and he pulled out that #3 jersey with McCoy on the back of it."

After seeing the jersey, could you see yourself in a Panther uniform?

"I think I could, oh yeah."

Will you take an official visit to Pittsburgh?

"As of now, definitely."

Where does Pittsburgh rank with you right now?

"They are near the top, and definitely in the top 5."

You've been to Michigan and Maryland. How does Pittsburgh compare with those schools?

"Pittsburgh is just as good as anywhere I have been. Their facilities are the best I have seen."

How was it to meet some of the players and coaches?

"It was nice. I didn't know a lot about Coach Harris. Once I got to meet him, he was a great guy, very personable. I like the way he interacts. It was nice to be able to speak with the players and see how they liked Pittsburgh. Derron Thomas is from Maryland, so I already knew him. I got to meet Clint Session and talk to him."

Was the trip more or less than what you had expected?

"It was more than I expected. I had a ball. I am seriously going to consider Pittsburgh."
