Besides the obvious interest from his hometown school McKenzie has been hearing from Ohio State, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Penn State. He hasn't officially been offered but has a feeling an offer from Pittsburgh is coming soon.
"Coach Junko has told me that after spring ball was over they'd be doing some evaluations, and I will most likely be offered before summer."
"I want to stay close to home, I have always liked Pitt since I was a young kid. I like the academic support they offer with their tutoring program. The coaches are very nice, they make you feel at home there."
Did Donnell feel like he was in the shadow of Revis in 2003?
"No one really worried about, Darrelle is a great player and he deserves everything he gets. We are very focused as a team in accomplishing our goals. It doesn't matter whose face is in the paper, as long as we win."
In 2003 Donnell was credited with 132 tackles, 2 int's, 3 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries, and 3 sacks. He has visited Pittsburgh a few times; on one of his recent trips to Blue Chip Day he got to meet LB Clint Session.
"Clint is such a cool guy. He took the time to talk to me about the University. He told me about playing linebacker in Pitt's defense."
McKenzie will be heading to State College for the Nike Combine on May 15th, he's unsure at this point on which camps he'll be attending this summer. He does know one thing for sure and that's what he's going to do if a Pittsburgh offer comes his way.
"If they offer I will probably take it and commit."
Donnell has a max bench of 320 lbs and a maximum squat of 480 lbs. He is scheduled to take the ACT on May 27th. McKenzie will be a very heavily watched player in the state this year as his team tries to repeat as PIAA Class AA Champions.
