Maryland OT has 3 offers already

In 2002, OT Jon Walko got a taste of a state championship. He was a sophomore then. This year, he will be a senior and he has aspirations of leading his Seneca Valley team to the Promised Land one more time. At 6-6, 287 lbs., he just may be man enough to accomplish this feat.

Walko has quietly received 3 scholarship offers from Syracuse, West Virginia, and Virginia Tech. Others who have shown an interest in Jon include Purdue, Maryland, Pittsburgh, and Penn State.

"My father is from Pennsylvania. He played at Windber High School and then went on to play at Kent State. I have some relatives in that area, so I am interested in the schools up there," said Walko.

In 2003, Walko earned 2nd Team Class AAA All-State honors, 1st Team All Montgomery County, and 2nd Team All-Metro. His current favorites are West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Maryland, Virginia, Penn State and Pittsburgh.

Jon is in no rush to make a decision. He wants to take his time and check everything out before deciding.

What are the main factors when you are deciding what school you are interested in?

"I have to comfortable there. They have to have a good academic support system. I want to go somewhere where the fans support their team. When you go to the stadium it's packed."

Walko has taken unofficial visits to Maryland and Virginia, and is currently making plans to visit West Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Jon Walko runs the forty in 5.2 seconds. He bench presses 290 lbs. and squats 300 lbs. In the classroom, he maintains a 2.5 GPA and has yet to take the SATs or ACT.
