Big Florida lineman likes Panthers

Tallahassee, FL- the University of Pittsburgh definitely needs lineman, especially big tackles. Tallahassee Leon High School has one who hasn't heard from Pittsburgh but like's them anyway. OT Chris Sands 6-8, 335, 5.5 has been getting mail from Florida, LSU, Arkansas, USC, Florida State, and Georgia.

Chris has family in Pennsylvania, around the Philadelphia area. What attracts him to Pittsburgh?

"It's away from home, I like how the program is growing, and I think the new Big East Conference is going to be special."

Along with Pittsburgh Chris likes Florida, Georgia, LSU, and North Carolina. He has taken unofficial trips to Alabama, Florida, and Florida State. This summer he is planning on attending 5-6 camps down south and possibly 1-2 in the Northern part of the country. Another possible destination is the Nike Combine at LSU.

Chris has been nominated for the Super 6 Team, which is selected by a local TV station and includes players from the North Florida area. In 2003 he was an Honorable-Mention All-Big Bend selection.

What are your goals for the 2004 season?

"I want to help my team win a state championship and continue to get better."

How would you describe your playing style?

"I am aggressive and physical, I am getting better each year. I am always jumping rope or playing basketball too try and improve my footwork."

Are you a better run blocker, or are you better in pass sets?

"My run blocking is good, because of my size and explosiveness. My pass blocking is good."

Are there any lineman in the NFL or college that you watch and try to emulate their style?

"I like Larry Allen from Dallas he is real aggressive, I also like Robert Gallery.

What are the main things you are looking for in a college?

"How much interest the coach shows in me, and the facilities."

Do you participate in any other sports?

"During my senior year I plan on playing basketball to increase my foot speed."

How about interests outside of football?

" I am very active in the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) it's a worship group for athlete's."

Chris currently has a 2.7 GPA, he is scheduled to take his SATS in May and his ACT in June, he has a max bench of 280 lbs.
