Ohio DB has been busy of late

Bowling Green, Pittsburgh, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Akron, Toledo, Miami-OH, and Western Michigan coaches have all been to Garfield High School lately. Why? S/RB Marcus Council (6-0, 205, 4.6) of Garfield High School in Akron, OH is a very capable two-way player.

In 2003, Council had 47 solo tackles and 3 interceptions on defense. Offensively, he gained 468 yards on the ground and scored 5 touchdowns on his way to be named 2nd Team All-City RB and safety. He was also named Honorable Mention All-Ohio Inland Team.

Iowa, Michigan, and Pittsburgh are the 3 schools that standout as having been the most persistent in their efforts to land Marcus. Pittsburgh has been recruiting him as a RB, while others have said they like him as a safety.

Where does he prefer?

"I like safety, but I do like to run the ball. I guess if it's a school that I like and they are going to offer me to play RB I would do it," said Council.

So which schools do you like?

"Iowa, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Virginia, and Notre Dame."

Marcus has taken unofficial trips to Michigan and Pittsburgh. He was in Pittsburgh for their first junior day and got to see the Panther Mens basketball team play against Villanova.

So how did the two trips compare?

"Both have real nice facilities and the coaches were real nice at both schools."

Council took part in the Nike Combine at Ohio State. He also may take part in the MSL/Insiders Combine at Cincinnati May 29th & 30th. This summer, he has a busy schedule. He will attend Iowa and Akron senior camps, Michigan 4-day camp, Syracuse 3-day camp, and Pittsburgh and Ohio State 1-day camps.

What separates Marcus from other DBs?

"I'm very physical, but I'm smart. I am extremely competitive. I hate to lose."

Do you participate in any other sports?

"I was All-City and All-District as a sophomore PG. I didn't play this year so I could focus on weight training. I plan on playing again next season."

The weight training has helped as Marcus has a maximum bench of 280 lbs. and a max squat of 405 lbs. He also has a 32" vertical. Council maintains a solid 3.5 GPA and has scored 18 on the ACT.
